Bordertown
Bowmans Rail is the only independently owned South Australian short-haul rail company. It brings together rail and intermodal assets, efficient documentation management, and collaboration with road transport providers, in a unique, cost-saving service to its customers.
Bowmans Rail established a rail freight service and Shield established an intermodal during 2018, with operations beginning early 2019. It provides a new cost effective rail freight solution to Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal for the region.
Shield Group is an Australian company focused on producing timber resources and products sourced from suppliers who are members of the International Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) program. It is a major investor in milling technology and amongst its products are softwoods and hardwoods for manufacturing furniture and flooring for overseas markets.
Bowmans Rail has worked closely with Shield and ARTC to help develop the intermodal and rail freight solution at Bordertown which supports Shield’s export growth through the Port of Adelaide and offers a new cost-effective rail freight solution to FACT for the SE region.

Broken Hill
Bowmans Rail is the only independently owned South Australian short-haul rail company. It brings together rail and intermodal assets, efficient documentation management, and collaboration with road transport providers, in a unique, cost-saving service to its customers.
Bowmans Rail established an intermodal and rail road operation between Broken Hill and Port Adelaide to service Cristal Mining’s mineral sands separation plant there.
Cristal Mining is one of Australia's premier mineral sands miners, processors and suppliers. The company is the largest producer of leucoxene, the third-largest producer of rutile and the seventh-largest producer of zircon globally.
Heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) production at the Ginkgo Mine in the Murray Basin commenced in December 2005 and commissioning of the Broken Hill mineral separation plant occurred in February 2006, with the nearby Snapper Mine going into production in 2010.
Three mineral streams are transported by road train to Broken Hill for further refinement before being transported by Bowmans Rail to Adelaide Port for on-shipping to Bunbury in Western Australia and elsewhere for further processing and refinement into final products.
Bowmans Rail and Cristal Mining have developed a strong relationship, with Bowmans being a key provider in Cristal’s supply chain. Bowmans Rail worked with Toll and Cristal Mining to save time and money in their supply chain and Cristal Mining were awarded the PASA 2016 Entrepreneurial Procurement Award for supply chain innovation.
To deliver this outcome for Cristal, Bowmans Rail managed the design, project and contract management and funding to develop a rail loop extension and hardstand from concept to operations within three months

Port Augusta
Bowmans Rail is the only independently owned South Australian short-haul rail company. It brings together rail and intermodal assets, efficient documentation management, and collaboration with road transport providers, in a unique, cost-saving service to its customers.
Bowmans Rail established an intermodal and rail road operation between Port Adelaide and Port Augusta in early 2018 to support the 300MW Bungala solar photovoltaic project.
The project required in excess of 900,000 solar panels and electrical and construction materials to be imported through Port Adelaide. The 3000 containers were supplied over nine months and had to beinspected by AQIS, transferred 280km to site, unpacked and the containers returned to Bowmans for reusing by exporters within 20 days.
